REProduce Artists | MC Kash

At the time of this writing, Roushan Illahi, aka MC Kash, has yet to leave his hometown of Srinagar, Kashmir, but has channelled his very real frustrations of growing up during the Indian occupation of Kashmir in the only way he can - by rapping. Strategic, intelligent, and on point, the rhymes Roushan spills have struck an unprecedented nerve among his peers in Kashmir. Yet, he lives and works in a context where the state cannot ignore this swelling connect - studios where he records get shut down, and his performing live is subject to uncertainties that could jeopardize his welfare. This is what it is like to be a rapper in Indian occupied Kashmir. Unlike many of his hip-hop contemporaries in both India and beyond, he is not fronting; this struggle is real.
